It has been a while since I have posted on T&TOCG, and the reason is that I have started something new. A new blog that is dedicated to my inspirations and musings on fashion and style. Basically, where this blog was right at the very beginning and which was lost along the way.

If you feel like following along, you can find me here.

Tonight I walked the 5km home from work, by the park and it was delightful. Melbourne in Autumn is so pretty, the trees lining the roads are loosing their red and gold leaves and they are scattered across the footpath. Yellow streetlamps glow in the dusky night and as I walk over the Flinders Street bridge, I turn to look back at the cityscape and it’s like I’m in another country. The skyscrapers shine and the windows of the historic buildings shine with warmth. It is one of my most favourite times of the year.

The other thing I love about Autumn is the fashion. Especially trench coats, and this one is gorgeous! The added frill on the collar is such a nice little detail that makes it different from every high street design.

Paired with simple jeans and a gorgeous pair of heels, you’re good to go. From the office straight to dinner or drinks. Nice and cosy and warm.

With the days getting shorter, the mornings and the evenings getting cooler, it’s a sure sign that my favourite season is on its way….Winter. While winter in Australia aren’t as blisteringly cold as our Northern Hemisphere cousins winters, it’s still nice to rug up in a comfy knitted sweater and warm boots.

Winter and autumn isnt the brightest of times, with the majority of Melbournites clothing themselves in regulation black or grey so it will be nice this season to make a statement in hot pink.
Doesn’t the colour brighten your day just by looking at it? Coupled with turquoise, it’t the perfect antidote to those stormy wintery days when all you feel like doing is staying locked in doors and under a blanket.

Loving this pic of Kate Bosworth in the new Vanessa Bruno print campaign…makes me want to go out and buy more clothes. So I guess it’s done it’s job!
It’s really nice seeing fashion campaigns creating beautiful images, not necessarilly all about the strategically placed shoe or handbag, but images that wouldn’t be out of place in a gorgeous coffee table book.
This is certainly one of my favourites.

I’m probably the only Melbourne Girl that is looking forward to the change of seasons. It’s not too long before the leaves start to turn red and gold and the sky fills with rain. The stores are starting to fill with sweaters and boots, and I’m really feeling the pull towards getting all rugged up – strange considering that today is quite warm and the sun is shining!

So I was on Pinterest today, and found this – I’d pretty much consider this my go to outfit for Autumn.

I’m having a style dilemma. It feels like what I like to wear, is contradicting  what I want to buy.  Now it’s a tricky situation.  I could just go out shopping and buy the things that I find appealing on the rack, yet I know as soon as I get home, they will be yet annother piece that’s banished to the back of the closet and worn only once.

You see the pieces that Im drawn too in the shops are all girly, colourful, got full skirts or longer hems.  They sit on the waist and only really look nice with stilletto heels and lady like accessories.  What I like to wear however, is a little more tom boy.  Think Kate Bosworth, Rachel Bilson or even Erin Wasson.  I’d be more the happy wearing every day, skinny jeans, with a silk over sized top or t shirt, skirts with boots or wedges, simple accessories with a huge handbag.  I’m a walking contradiction!

I guess the one thing that I need to keep reminding myself is not to go overboard with trends.  It’s easy to get carried away by the dresses with floral print and full skirts but will you actually ever wear them?  Are you just buying them because you feel the need to “fit in” with what everyone else is buying or wearing?  Style and fashion are two different things.  A woman can have exceptional style by wearing her clothes like they were made just for her. Its the woman wearing the clothes not the clothes wearing the woman. Whereas fashion comes and goes.  Today is ladylike glamour tomorrow its back to the 80’s.

So next time I have an urge to go buy myself something new, I’ll look at the pieces that Im drawn too, I might even try one or two on, but I’ll not let myself get down because they “don’t feel me”. Instead, I’ll embrace my style, I’ll wear it confidently and I wont let myself get swayed to think that the sunray pleat skirt will be a good purchase because after all, I know what I’ll wear and what will end up being banished to the back of the closet in a weeks time.

There are 8 days left of spring, yet Melbourne still feels like its in the midst of winter – well the weather that is. Grey skies, storms that blow down trees and rain that soaks my knew leather ballet flats and bears them unwearable until they have dried out. On that note, I feel like I should be eating blueberry pie with custard and wrapping myself in a cashmere sweater. It also doesnt help that every second post on Pinterest is about Fall and Thanksgiving. So, I’m going to embrace it for the rest of the day and dream about buying (and weaing) a coat with this amazing detail next Winter.

Tomorrow we’ll be back to posting about summer. Promise.

Image from Pinterest – my new obsession.

I’m really looking forward to the warm days of summer. How could I not when there are Erin Fertherston’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection of beautiful wearable designs featuring whimsical prints of butterflies! There is just something about them that make any day feel a little bit sunnier. Even on cool spring days like we are having right now in Melbourne.

Yellow and mustard (or any shade of) are my current colour de jour. I really like how cheery they make me feel and how just a tiny bit of the colour can go along way in making an outfit.
